We are all looking for ways to style rooms in our home that are inexpensive and easy. After all, not all of us have the money or time to spend on lengthy projects. Plus, if we are being honest, we all like the bragging rights that come from doing a project with our own two hands. So here are a few tips to help you get started on transforming rooms in your home with some DIY genius hacks that will leave your friends asking for your help when it comes time to decorate their own homes.
1. Command Hooks
If you aren't handy, the thought of hanging curtains in your home can make you anxious. Who wants to figure out how to use a drill and hang hardware when you may make a mistake and leave your wall covered in ugly holes? If that's you, try purchasing some cheap command hooks, such as some nice chrome ones, and stick them to your wall. Just place a rod on top and voila, you've hung your own curtains!
2. Jewellery
If you have some old jewelry lying around that you never use, considering using them for curtain tiebacks. It will add a touch of elegance to any room – a unique feature that is one-of-a-kind.
3. Hangers
If you have a closet that is exposed for everyone to see, you can easily dress it up by using coloured tape on your hangers. You can use different coloured tape or ones with different designs. If you want an even more drastic change, try painting your hangers an assortment of colours. It will look so pretty you will never again consider putting a door on your closet.
4. Light Bulb
This is such a cool idea for any room, especially a child's room. All you have to do is take a sharpie and draw a design on the light bulb – stars, polka dots or clouds. They will cast a fun shadow whenever you turn the light on.
5. Duvet-Curtain
If you want the look of expensive, thick curtains but can't afford the cost, look no further than the bedding section at your local department store. All you need to do is buy an inexpensive duvet cover and cut it in half. The fabric will be doubled so you will be creating your own lining. No one will ever know you are actually using a bed cover as your window treatments.
6. Pop of Colour
So your child wants to paint their room a hot pink. And you don't. Want a good compromise? Paint the sides of their door in the bold colour. You can also paint the sides of their dresser for a fun detail. You will both be happy with the extra oomph added to the room.
7. Empty Fireplace
If you have a fireplace in your home that is sitting empty in the corner, it's time to bring that beautiful detail to life. You don't even need firewood. All you need are an array of candles, all different shapes and sizes. Light them up at night and watch as your room is filled with an elegant, romantic look.
8. Short Ceilings
If your room feels small because your ceilings are low, there is an easy way to fix this. All you have to do is paint half the walls with a colour of your choice. Leave the top portion of your walls white. This will give you an illusion of higher ceilings in your room. Easy, right?
9. Wall Photos
Many of us have photos we would love to hang on our walls but are too afraid to commit and actually do it. That's because we don't want to drill a hole and realize we've made a mistake and the photo arrangement looks awful. That's where removable contact paper comes in handy. This paper allows you to cut out the size of the photo you want to hang and then stick it to your wall. If you arranging a photo gallery on your wall, you can cut out the different sizes and stick them in the arrangement you want. This will allow you to see what the gallery will look like before you actually start drilling.
10. Fabric
If you have a boring rubber mat or ugly window roller blind it's time to add some colour and texture to them. All you need to do is pick out some beautiful fabric that suits your taste and attach the fabric to the blind or rug with a hot glue gun. There is no sewing required! The transformation will leave your room feeling updated and alive again.
